Elderly Driver Crash into Wall while Parking
An elderly driver crashed her car on the back of an empty apartment building while trying to park her car in a hospital. According to reports, the 84-year-old woman lost control of her gold Cadillac CTS while trying to park in Orange Imaging Medical Center.
Apparently, she stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brakes, one Orange police said.
She ended up crashing to a wall of a two-storey apartment building in Palmyra Avenue. Fortunately, no one was injured in the car accident.
However, it stresses the risk of having elderly drivers behind the wheel.
That is why, along with teen drivers, elderly motorists have the highest insurance premiums. As much as we hate to admit it, old age comes with many drawbacks.
There’s poor eyesight due to certain illnesses like diabetes and studies also show that elderly drivers are also more prone to falling asleep behind the wheel.
Plus, old age just naturally reduces our coordination, reaction time and even our ability to make good judgments.
That is why California requires all drivers who reach the age of 70 to retake a driver’s test to know if he or she still has the right physical and mental condition to follow traffic laws and rules without endangering other people.
The test would decide if the state would revoke, suspend or renew the driver’s license.
The California DMV requires them to renew the license personally where they will have to undergo a vision test and if they fail, they will be given an actual driving test.
What elderly drivers should do is retake some driving lessons again even before their actual licensing test.
Not only will it help them pass the test with flying colors, they can get tips on how to improve on their driving skills to their current capabilities.
Drunken man Sentenced after Using Motorized La-Z-Boy
Drunk driving is an offense that can be easily avoided if only people would act responsibly. Fatal accidents may happen especially if they were already impaired by the substance they took.
Having too much alcohol in your system can make you do even the weirdest things.
A Minnesota man has recently pleaded guilty of driving his motorized La-Z-Boy chair while he was under the influence of alcohol.
According to the complaint, a 62-year-old man named Dennis LeRoy Anderson informed the authorities that he left a bar in Minnesota town of Proctor using the chair after he drank eight or nine beers.
According to prosecutors, his blood alcohol content reached 0.29, which is three times greater than the legal limit, when he smashed into a parked vehicle. Anderson was not seriously hurt in the accident.
A converted lawnmower was responsible in powering the chair that also had cup holders and a stereo.
Sixth Judicial District Judge Heather Sweetland sentenced him to two years of probation and 180 days of prison time
Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident. Establishments selling alcohols should put a limit to the number of drinks that a single customer can purchase. In this way, accidents caused by drunk driving may be lessened.
Teen Plans to Admit to Charges to Remove Car Accident from Record
The 17-year-old teen accused of vehicle manslaughter due to drunk driving is planning to admit to the charges that would place him in probation for three years and possibly remove this offense from his record.
The teen was charged because of a DUI car accident that resulted in the death of one of his passengers.
The CHP investigators found out that he had been driving with a BAC of 0.10 during the crash.
Under the process called “deferred entry of judgment” the judgment will be delayed for the duration of the probation period where the teen’s activities will be monitored closely by the Probation Department.
The judge could set the conditions of the probation including how long the probation should last.
After the period, the judge can then decide on the case considering the behavior of the teen during the probationary period.
If the teen follows all the conditions of his probation, then the judge can decide to have the charges dismissed.
This option is available to minor defendants in juvenile court.
This gives young people who committed correctable offenses another chance instead of sticking them to prison so early in life.
It provides an avenue for young people to learn from their mistakes and even show the courts their remorse for the incident.
However, the family of the 17-year-old teen passenger who died in the accident should not be forgotten.
Although, the teen driver would probably get a second chance, his liability (and of his parents because he’s a minor) in a civil suit should still be met.
If the family filed a wrongful death suit, the report that the teen driver will be admitting to the charges could mean a faster conclusion to the case.
It would just be a matter of proving the damages the tragedy caused their family both financially and emotionally.
Lindsay Lohan Gets Probation Extension to Finish DUI Classes
When people talk about celebrities who get involved in car accidents, the name of Lindsay Lohan always pops up even though her last DUI conviction was last 2007.
Now, even with the Hill’s star Stephanie Pratt who was also arrested for DUI, Lohan still managed to get the spotlight.
That is because of the recent accosting she got from Judge Marsha Revel.
The judge issued a stern warning to Lohan that she needs to take her DUI probation seriously and that she needs to make it a priority or she could face possible jail time.
This is because Lohan was reported missing from her mandatory 18-month alcohol education program.
In fact, Lohan attended only 15 of her 26 individual alcohol classes, 13 of her group alcohol classes, and just 13 of her 28 self-help sessions.
Her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley argued that Lohan has been extremely busy that is why she was not able to complete about half her class.
Fortunately for her, Judge Revel granted their request to extend her probation so that she can complete her DUI classes.
It is not normal for people to celebrate an extended probation, but to Lohan, it’s either that or probable jail time.
The courts have actually been lenient to Lohan, despite the circumstances of her case.
Despite having two DUI arrests in just a span of two months in 2007, and finding cocaine in her possession, she spent just a grand total of 84 minutes in jail.
And now, even violating mandatory DUI classes, she was still given another chance (although the judge stressed that this is her last).
Hopefully, Ms. Lohan takes her DUI penalties more seriously and put up with what actually is a light punishment for her offense.
If not, the prosecutors will have a field day arguing for her to go to jail.
Drugs, Texting While Driving — Factors that Killed Teen in Crash
A 14-year-old boy on his bicycle was killed when he was hit by a driver who was reportedly texting while driving. Authorities found traces of Vicodin and Xanax in great amounts on Jeffrey Woods’ system moments after the accident took place.
The accident that took the life of young Danny Oates stirred controversy as followers continue to symphatize with his family despite the suspect’s claim that he had a seizure when he hit the boy and so he had no way of controlling his vehicle.
The loss of a child is a truly tragic event that no parent should experience. Their ordeal is further worsened by Wall’s constant denial of his liability in the car accident.
